Traditional Applique Quilts

Most of my work here, is in a style which originated in Baltimore Maryland in the mid 1800's, and brought back into popularity by author Elly Sienkiewicz. Many of the patterns shown here are from books published by Sienkiewicz, some are original works by Sandra. Sandra has worked in this genre for 20 years, and has taught hundreds of students in the art of hand appliqué, silk ribbon embroidery, and wired ribbon roses.

Seasons of Life

This was the “Outstanding Large Quilt” winner at the Road to California show, January 2019. Designed by Sandra, and quilted by Kris Spray of Stockton Ca.

Baltimore Album Medallion

Most of the patterns in this quilt were from the "Baltimore Beauties and Beyond" series of books by Elly Sienkiewicz. Center block by Sandra. Quilted by Creative Quilting of Galt.

Sailing to Baltimore

Most of the patterns for this quilt were from Sienkiewicz, the center block is by Sandra, based on an antique block. This quilt won best of show at the 2015 River City Quiter's Show in Sacramento, Ca.

Detail of the Frog block

This block was based on work by Annemieke Mein (The Art of Annemicke Mein) and republished in Fancy Appliqué by Elly Sienkiewicz. Here Sandra has made this block using ultra suede for the frog, and embellished with silk ribbon embroidery.
